Priests are mere mortals like us. They have been chosen by GOD to support us, the lay Catholics through the sacrifice of the Mass and administering the sacraments. They do many other things too numerous to mention. They are GOD's gift to help us on our spiritual journey. They have weaknesses similar to those that we suffer from and they also experience something more intense than the rest of us. They are constantly attacked by the evil one and its allies. Anyone familar with battle tactics knows the value of destroying the leadership of an opposing force: cut off the head and the body will die. Eliminate a powerful leader and his troops will lose their goal, focus, and possibly the will to fight. It becomes a very frustrating, confusing, morale- destroying event.
